Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the Benzina app (hereby referred to as "Application") for mobile devices, created by Allika Studio OÜ (hereby referred to as "Service Provider") and offered as a free service. The Application is provided "AS IS".

Who is responsible for your data

Allika Studio OÜ, registry code 17526321, Liivamäe tn 6-20, Kesklinna linnaosa, 10113 Tallinn, Estonia, is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at support@allikastudio.eu.

Information the Application collects

Technical data, collected automatically while you use the Application:

• Your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address
• Device model, manufacturer, operating system and its version, screen resolution, and unique device identifiers
• Which screens of the Application you open, when, and how long you spend in them

Location data:

• Your device's location, used to find nearby fuel stations and car washes, to calculate distances to them, and to centre the map around you. Location is collected only while the Application is actively in use and is never tracked in the background. You can refuse or withdraw this permission at any time in your device settings; the Application continues to work without it, but nearby search and distances are unavailable.

Account data, if you sign in with Google:

• Your Google account email address, display name, profile photo URL, and unique Google identifier.

Data you create in the Application:

• Price submissions: when you submit a fuel price, your unique Google identifier and email address are linked to the submission for verification and data integrity.
• Price reports: when you report an incorrect price, your unique Google identifier is recorded temporarily to prevent duplicate reports and spam. This record is purged once the price is updated or removed.
• Preferences and progress: unlocked icon identifiers, promotional codes entered, default fuel type, and selected search radius.
• Newsletter: if you opt in, your email address and display name are stored in our database so that we can send you product updates and news. You may opt out at any time.

Data kept only on your device and never sent to us:

• App preferences such as theme, language, currency, icon size, and search radius.

Analytics and diagnostics:

• Usage and interaction data: anonymous, aggregated events, such as which features and filters are used, collected through Google Analytics for Firebase so that we can understand how the Application is used and improve it. This data is not linked to your name or email address.
• Diagnostic data: crash reports and app-performance data, such as launch time and network request duration, collected through Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring so that we can find and fix bugs and slowdowns.

How your location is used

Your location is used to show fuel stations and car washes near you, to calculate distances to them, and to centre the map. Aggregated and anonymized location data also helps us understand how the Application is used and where it performs poorly. When the Application looks up prices or loads map tiles, those requests reach the third-party services listed below, and those services receive your device's IP address together with the area the request concerns.

Camera Access

The Application may ask for access to your device's camera so that you can scan fuel price boards instead of entering prices by hand. Photos taken for this purpose are processed entirely on your device using an on-device, open-source text recognition engine (Tesseract OCR). They are not uploaded to, transmitted to, or stored on the Service Provider's servers or any third-party server, and they are discarded immediately after the recognized prices are extracted. Camera access is used only when you actively choose the photo-scanning option.

Fuel Price Forecasting

The Application uses mathematical algorithms and data modeling to provide its Fuel Price Forecasting feature. The forecast is computed entirely on your device, from historical market trends and recent local prices. No personal data and no exact location coordinates are sent to external servers for this feature.

Third Party Access

Apart from the services listed here, data leaves your device only in aggregated, anonymized form. Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data.

Services that receive your account and usage data:

• Google Sign-In (account authentication)
• Google Firebase Authentication
• Google Firebase Firestore (database)
• Google Firebase Cloud Functions
• Google Analytics for Firebase
• Firebase Crashlytics (crash reporting)
• Firebase Performance Monitoring (app performance diagnostics)

Services that receive your device's IP address, and an approximate location when you search for nearby prices or move the map:

• MapLibre (maplibre.org), open-source map rendering, using OpenStreetMap map data
• Fuel price API (gas.didnt.work), fuel price lookup
• Fuelo (fuelo.net), fuel price data
• Websites of fuel and car-wash operators, for their publicly published price and opening-hours pages

The services in the second group do not receive your name, email address, or account identifier.

Text recognition for the camera price-scanning feature runs fully on-device using an open-source OCR engine (Tesseract) and does not involve any third-party service.

Where your data is stored

Data stored in Google Firebase Firestore and Firebase Authentication is located on servers in Warsaw, Poland (the europe-central2 region), within the European Union.

How long data is kept

Account data is kept for as long as your account exists and is deleted when you delete the account. Price reports are purged once the reported price is updated or removed. Newsletter data is kept until you opt out. Fuel prices you have submitted are kept as part of the price database, but they are fully anonymized when your account is deleted, so that they can no longer be connected to you.

Your Rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive a copy of it in a portable form. Where processing is based on your consent, which is the case for location access, camera access, and the newsletter, you may withdraw that consent at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it. To exercise any of these rights, write to support@allikastudio.eu.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon), or with the supervisory authority of the country where you live.

Opt-Out and Account Deletion Rights

You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling it.

Additionally, you have the right to permanently delete your account and personal data at any time through the in-app Account Settings.

If you have already uninstalled the Application or wish to request deletion outside of the Application, you can submit a deletion request via our web form (https://forms.gle/5h9J3TaGb8AzrzzDA) or by contacting us via email at support@allikastudio.eu from the address linked to your account.

Upon requesting account deletion, your Google authentication profile, email, name, and profile photo URL will be permanently purged. Any fuel prices you have submitted will remain in our database completely anonymized.

Children

The Application is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal data, write to support@allikastudio.eu and we will delete it.

Security

The Service Provider is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. Account data is secured through Google Firebase Authentication and stored in Google Firebase Firestore. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may change over time. The effective date below shows when it was last updated, and significant changes will be announced in the Application.
